OUR REDEEMER’S LUTHERAN CHURCH
Church School Report

Wednesday Church School is going well.

January and February lessons began with the life of Moses through the Promised Land with the Walls of Jericho coming down and Joshua crossing the Jordan. During Lent we began the New Testament with Jesus washing the disciples feet, The Pass Over Meal and In the Garden. The Students enjoy small skits and did a wonderful job portraying The Betrayal. We sang in Church for Palm Sunday and had a great Easter Egg Hunt in the church because of the bad weather, We had another egg hunt during Church School so that children who do not attend a church could participate. Thank you to all the gifts of candy for the eggs. Your generosity is over whelming.

In April we awarded pins for memorization of the Lord’s Prayer and the Ten Commandments. All thirty two students earned at least one pin. Five high school students who either taught or served as helpers were presented a guardian angel visor clip as a token of our appreciation for their gracious commitment these last two years. We said good bye to our fifth & sixth grade teacher Alicia Sonsalla, seniors Bryanna Rasch, Alex Nielson and eight students.

September 4th was Rally Day, full of faith games and ice cream, yum! We welcomed eight new Kindergarteners and two student teachers, Hannah Nordby and Taylor Hewson, who was a helper last year. Lessons began with Creation, Noah and the Ark, Jonah and the fish, Esther, David and Goliath, Daniel in the Lion’s Den and Peaceful Kingdom. We had a fun All Saints Day party with games, donated candy and prizes. The confirmation students helped run the games and hand out prizes. Thank you to the special people who donated candy, the kids loved it and yes I did keep some of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups for myself. I call them my survival snack. In November we prepared for the advent season with the story of Elizabeth and Mary and a number of skits, costumes and all.

It has been frustrating not seeing my church school children coming to church. I was venting this frustration to my spiritual friends who came up this a wonderful idea to give the children ownership of their part in the service. A large cross was created and every child in church school and most nursery children placed their hand print on this cross. It is every child’s responsibility during the church service, to process in and out with this cross. The children are so proud of their contribution to the service and by the looks on your faces you love seeing them do their thing. Thank you Marty and Julie, for building the cross for us.

Thank you: Teachers Laurie Monke, Taylor Hewson, Hannah Nordby, Helpers Mason Stang, Allie Kuske, Stephie Witte, Brady Bender, Lexi Braun, Carter Stang, Supt. Teresa Nielson, the Education Committee Alicia Sonsalla, Bobbie Erickson and the Church Council for your support.
